Iron Giant - Dean

Hey all, it has been a while. Last Friday I said to Andy, "hey Man, what's the topic going to be today - I'll have time to draw today!"...babonggg....a week as passed with no opportunity to draw but today was the day I got to it! I don't know where to begin or end about The Iron Giant....what a great movie...an underrated classic and I cry every time in that cataclysmic scene as soon as the Giant says "Superman"...oops almost a little teary thinking about it. B&W for me this week...may colour it at some stage - it's begging for it, but I'm done for the day :)

Mythology - Icarus - Dean

Hi all - well it has been a while - I've missed this!!! I hope you fellow escape artists are well and have had a craking 2011 so far. I got inspired by Dan this time and thought - Hell, stop feeling bad about being busy on other things and missing a bunch of weeks and do something....so I looked over the old topics and the mythology one resonated most with me. I had actually started this one at the time but never wound it up, so tonight i did and here it is. That foolish Icarus, thinking that clagging some feathers on some sticks was going to help him fly like a bird...pfft.

Batman Villians - The Penguin - Dean

Hi all - painting seems to be a fortnightly treat for me at the moment so please excuse that this one is late in sequence! I went for the penguin and I was inspired by these awesome Victorian star wars illustrations I saw somewhere on the net. I grew up watching the TV series after school, so I wanted to interpret that 60's TV penguin but with a bigger penguin like nose. I was trying to go for a half aggressive snarl, half "play it cool, but I think I may be in the poo" kind of look with a little treat for the detail focused in the monocle...enjoy.

Bond 007 - Dean

And here's Bond...I went for a Daniel Craig quietly walking away from a refinery or something he just destroyed...all in a day's work I guess! For some reason I had a penchant for explosions this weekend...they are just such a cool and quick way of adding texture and background... I also noticed how I seem to be stuck on purples, blues and oranges this weekend...will need to mix it up a bit on the next one.

Nausicaa - Dean

Well after a week out of action feeling anxious that I had made one post to the blog and I'm already nearly two weeks behind I finally got some time on Friday to paint again...hip hip hooray. Here's my Nausicaa - I saw it first when I was a kid and loved that glider and that big crusty flea thing...so I just had to get those in a pic. enjoy

Houdini - Dean

Hi all, this is my first post to the blog and thanks to Andi and Egor for inviting me! It has been great to see everyone's stuff along the way and it has been heaps of fun whipping this one up this arvo. My only memory of Harry was the Tony Curtis movie that I saw as a kid, and I always just picture him in a straight jacket...whatever scene that was in, it must have left an impression on me...but I can't remember it. I tried to make this guy intense and controlled despite his predicament, but I think he ended up more like Owen Wilson pulling a blue steel...damn it! So here goes for post #1, Will try and make these posts more 'pop/pulp' as time goes by - hope people don't mind treatment in the meantime - enjoy.
