Ikari - Egor
I think this guys name is Ikari which means Fury in Japanese. His the Anti Daredevil from Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's recent run on Dare Devil. I really like the spin on the classic DD yellow costume and the not so subtle nod to a ninja assassin - its badass. Pretty cool.

Pacific Rim - Egor
I watched Pacific Rim the other night and got all expired. Because I was already stepping out of my comfort zone by drawing mech tech (which doesn't come naturally to me) - I figured Id go one step further and play around with a different colouring technique. I've all ways envied concept designers and the use of markers and water colours. Any way I played around a bit hence the multiple finishes. I had fun and I want to take a crack at this more in the future - the style not the subject mater.

Ninja Mayhem - Egor
Here it is, the one everyones been waiting for Snake Eyes VS Storm Shadow! The two crazy ninja kids are the yin and yang of the GIJoe universe. They are the good and evil of the two teams and I really think growing up you were either a Snake Eyes man or Storm Shadow fan.
Personally I thought both were cool but at a crunch would pick Storm Shadow. Both both were mysterious both were ninja badasses and seemed liked few other characters could get the best over either one of these guys. Unfortunately I kinda think both these guys suffer from over saturation and marketing and as a result lost there edge a bit.

Cat Fight - Egor
Special two for one deal! Probably the most popular female characters in the Joe universe. Crossbows and funky European accents PLUS weird love triangles.

Night Viper - Egor
Again, Im not sure what it is about the Cobra figures - particularly the Viper range, but they do seem to have the coolest looks and accessories. The Night Viper came with a open/close visor with a massive long scope thing attached to it. He also had this sweet looking night rifle that could be attached to his upper leg. This guy was seriously cool.

Hydro Viper - Egor
This guy was awesome. He had a crazy demon looking mask and webbed flipper feet. The super cool thing was his right hand was webbed - he was pretty cool. Hydro Viper also happened to be the very first GIJoe I brought and like a gate way to drugs this guy got me hooked.

Zandar and Zarana - Egor
Continuing the GIJoe round of sketches we have crazy Dreadnok siblings Zandar and Zarana. I was a fan of the bad guys as a kid and particularly the Zartan and the Dreadnoks. It wasn't until I was older than I saw the influences which (I assume) the Dreadnoks where drawn from - think Mad Max extras who formed an 80's big hair metal band.

Sgt. Slaughter - Egor
I've gone all nostalgic recently and brought up a pile of 80's GIJoe figures on ebay. To justify these sometimes expensive purchases I've decided to sketch up a few of the more interesting characters.
We lead the way with Sgt Slaughter - the toughest GIJoe ever. At ease Maggots.

Animal Man - Egor
As apart of the relaunch of DC comics last year dubbed 'DC New 52' Animal Man recieved his own title. Written by the talented Jeff Lemire and illustrated by Steve Pugh. Animal man is the story of Buddy Baker a C grade hero and as an avatar of the red has the ability to take on the ability of any animal - screwy but interesting. Any way the series started out strong a mix of horror and heroics at the everyday man ground level, cause part of waht made Buddy interesting is that his a family man with a wife and kids who are as important to the series as he is. Sadly the first story arc went for 18? issues and became a real drainer, thankfully its over and hopeful a new tale will begin.

One of the great titles of 2012 is and continues to be Dark Horses Conan. Written by Brian Wood an dand drawn by Becky Cloonan. Aside from a a well written tale and fantastic art - the story also feature Belit the Pirate Queen, who is threatens to steal the show from Conan every issue.

Prophet - Egor
Prophet. A reinvention of the 90's Image comic by Rob Liefield - this epic Space Opera Saga is the brain child of Brandon Graham and Simon Roy. Wildly weird and imaginative, this is a great comic that always surprises.

IT Girl - Egor
It Girl (with Mr. Gum on Bongo). Created by Mike Allred as apart of his Madman / Atomics universe IT Girl has the ability to change at a molecule level into anything (non living?) that she touches.
Im a big fan of Mike Allred and the whacky world of Madman and the Atomics. It was great picking up a title that shone a spotlight on individual characters. I also enjoyed seeing other creative teams interpreting the characters.

Sweet Tooth - Egor
I've been reading Sweet Tooth in trade (by Jeff Lemire, by Vertigo comics) and its brilliant. Grim, disturbing and a whole lotta weird. Its the story of a young boy named Sweet Tooth and his survival in a post apocalyptic world. Mankind is dying off from a mysterious disease - the cure for which may lie in the abnormal births of Sweet Tooth and his friends who are half human half animal.

Neil Gaiman - Egor
A couple of weeks ago Neil Gaiman was in Melbourne promoting his new book Ocean at the end of the Lane. Im a lucky man and received tickets to attend as an anniversary gift (thanks honey). An evening with Neil Gaiman began with an interview, he read a chapter from the new book followed by a brief Q&A. Best of all, guests received a printed unedited draft of the first 2 chapters of Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I wasn't sure what to expect from the night. I've read most of Gaimans body of work and Im certainly a fan. Currently Im re-reading American Gods for the 5th or 6h time. The night was a real treat one I wont forget - Mr.Gaiman was well spoken, humble, funny and was genuinely excited to be there.
So this post I give you my rendition of Neil Gaiman (he really did have hair like a mop, dressed all in black and spoke in a very English accent, the good kind not the Posh or hard to understand kind).
